James and Shavonne are waiting to welcome a child into their heart and home through open adoption. Learn more about them!
Hello! We are James and Shavonne
We love kids and can’t wait to hear little feet running through the house. We have dreamed of being parents for a long time now; we started our adoption process a few years ago, and are so ready to become a mom and dad. Shavonne is unable to become pregnant and we are very excited about the possibility of becoming parents through adoption!
In our hearts, we see you as a very caring person who is considering an adoption plan because you want your child to have a wonderful life. We want you to know that you will always be a very important person (VIP) in our lives. You are remarkable. We would love the opportunity to meet you and have you be a part of our lives.
Our promise is to take good care of your baby. Your child will know they are loved and we will always strive to make sure they know how much you love them too. We will do everything we can to provide the baby with a happy life and opportunities. Faith and family are so important to us and we are blessed to be surrounded by wonderful family and friends.
Jim and I met on an August summer day that was over 100 degrees. We were working out; I was bicycling and Jim started talking about the hot weather. I chimed in that some cool breezes would be nice and before we knew it, we were chatting about everything! I noticed Jim’s big brown eyes and nice smile right away. He seemed like a genuine, caring and strong person. Jim asked if I wanted to go out the next day.
Our first date was dinner at Big Bowl Restaurant, which has awesome Thai food. We both love many types of food, but Thai is one of our favorites. We talked about where we grew up and things we like to do for fun. Afterwards, we went for a walk and held hands. Our second date was canoeing. We both like to swim and go to the lake in the summer, so we thought canoeing would be perfect. We canoed for the afternoon, and soaked up the sunshine. When we docked the canoe, I slipped and Jim grabbed my arm, keeping me steady. Right then, I knew that Jim is the type of guy you can count on. It was a nice feeling! Those dates were just the start of our fun times together.
We dated for 9 months and then one day Jim called me and said he wanted to take me out for a special evening. He came over to my condominium to pick me up for dinner, but said he wanted to talk for a few minutes before we went out. He held my hand and told me all the reasons he cared about me, describing how I was very special to him. And then he asked me to marry him. He said he had already talked to my father, and gotten his permission. I was so happy and teary eyed. I said YES!
Our wedding was a very special and memorable day in our lives. It was a rainy morning in May, which turned to a beautiful sunny day by noon. Everyone from both of our families attended, along with all of our friends. We were married in a cathedral next to my hometown in May. The ring bearer and flower girl were only 3 years old, so we were relieved they made it down the long aisle without running off to their parents’ arms. My dad walked me down the aisle, and gave me a kiss on my cheek before he gave my hand to Jim. The wedding procession was Canon in D inor, which is a favorite song of ours. Jim and I held hands through the whole wedding ceremony and afterwards, we walked down the aisle, so excited to be married. We have been married 12 years now.
About James (aka Jim) by Shavonne
Jim is confident, hard-working and outgoing. He is a kind and nurturing man. I so appreciate that he keeps family as a top priority. He is great about sharing his thoughts and insights with me and I know that Jim cherishes me as his wife. He is my rock and best friend.
Jim enjoys our nephews and niece; he likes to play board games with them when they come over. And in the summer, he plays catch with them in the yard. He’s good at listening to the kids, and sharing his thoughts when they ask questions about growing up. Jim is caring and thoughtful with them. He also grills great steaks, which the nephews love!
Jim works full time as a consultant at an insurance company. He can work from home daily and can also take leave from work when necessary, which provides a great schedule for having a family.
About Shavonne by James
Shavonne is a very kind and caring woman. She is nurturing and compassionate, bright and outgoing. I love that we are able to talk about anything together. Shavonne is family-focused. She is also a good cook! We are best friends.
Children love to be around my wife; she makes children feel special when we host family dinners. She enjoys cooking special food for them. (Our nephews and niece love her meatballs and homemade mac ‘n cheese!) Shavonne likes to listen to the kids, and helps with their questions. She also spends time playing games with them, encouraging them, and helping them feel confident.
Shavonne works full time as an accountant. She has flexibility to work from home. After the baby arrives, Shavonne will take leave and hopes to stay home. Professional daycare is also available nearby if we need it.
We live in a beautiful two story Colonial-style home, which is our dream home. It has plenty of space and we love it! One of our favorite spots in the house is the playroom. It’s a special room just for the kids. It has a cute green couch and a toy box built by Shavonne’s father. When kids come over, they flock to that room. The toy box has games, balls to play catch and coloring books. We put new toys in there so the kids can discover them when they visit. Our niece and nephews love to play in that room, especially during the colder months. We also have a really big backyard which is perfect for a swing set, sand box and games. We host BBQs in the summer (Jim cooks great steaks and burgers). Our friends and family and their children love to play catch in the yard and run around. We love to spend time in our yard, and have very friendly neighbors who we see often.
Jim’s mother, Mary Ann lives nearby and we talk with her daily. Mary Ann is a kind and considerate person. She’s a great mother-in- law and grandmother. We see her often and enjoy our time together. Jim has two step sisters, Brenda and Debbie. Brenda and her husband, John, have two children-Christopher and Katie. They live in Texas and we keep in touch with them, and love to visit them. Debbie and her husband, John, have three boys and they live near us. Debbie is adopted; the adoption was closed but she is now in contact with her birth family. She is able to share her feelings about being adopted with us, which has been so helpful. We are grateful that she will also be able to have that connection with a child we adopt.
Shavonne has a sister, Deborah, who is married. And Shavonne has wonderful cousins who live nearby. We have friends in the area, who have many children. They are a great source of friendship, and are there for us when we need help. Our families and friends are very excited about the adoption. They have been very supportive of us on our journey and will be thrilled to help us welcome your child into our family.
Christmas is our favorite holiday. We have a big family gathering, which we have at either our home or at Mary Ann’s home. We make a big ham, with green beans, asparagus and hot dinner rolls. Appetizers include meatballs, pigs in a blanket, and cheddar cheese ball. Everyone brings a dish to share. I also make a platter of Christmas cookies, and Jim’s aunt makes French silk pie. After dinner, all the kids excitedly open presents. Christmas is a great time to visit with family. The next morning, we get up and go to church. Celebrating Jesus’ birth is very special for us.
Thanksgiving is another favorite holiday. We stay at Brenda and John’s house in Texas, and visit for several days. We have family outings to ranches, kids’ museums, movies, bowling and Tex-Mex restaurants. We really enjoy hanging out together, and having fun.
