UPDATE: Meghan and Brad are matched with a child!
We are so excited to become parents. We hope through this book you are able to feel that and the excitement and the love we have for one another.
Before we ever met, we had both always wanted to adopt. One of Meghan’s oldest and closest friends, Blake, was adopted. His family showed her how special adopting is. Brad’s parents had begun the adoption process prior to learning they were pregnant with his older brother. It is a story they have told many times when speaking of ways to build a loving family.
Words cannot adequately describe how much we admire your strength and courage during one of the most difficult periods of life, and we are so grateful for your choice. We have the utmost respect for your decision and how brave and selfless you are. We cannot say “thank you” enough.
We promise to provide a home and family full of love, learning, encouragement, opportunities, and happiness. No matter what our children are passionate about we plan to fully encourage and be there every step of the way, as our parents did for both of us.
We consider adoption to be the greatest gift in life that we will not take for granted. We will have total and unconditional love for your child.
-Meghan & Brad
We were both born and raised in the Chicago suburbs and we even went to the same high school, although we did not meet until years after graduation. We met four years ago through a friend of Brad’s brother and quickly bonded over board games, books and rock climbing. Two and a half years later, on May 17, 2015, we were married at Morton Arboretum in a Sunday morning ceremony.
Brad is a chartered financial analyst and has worked his entire professional career at a fantastic, family-oriented firm in the suburbs. Brad loves his company and his work, as he spends his days analyzing the financial markets and helping people with their investments. Meghan is a data analyst for a major Chicago-area health system. She spends her work days diving into hospital data looking for ways to improve patient care.
Every evening we take our dogs on a long walk around our neighborhood. We spend that time talking about our days and what is going on in our lives. We look forward to adding a member of our family to those walks. We look forward to counting trees and naming the colors of the cars as we walk by.
I was raised in the suburbs of Chicago and grew up as an only child in a family that emphasized education and responsibility. My mom is a driven woman who worked very hard to advance her career in order to provide for our family. However, she still made time to read to me every night before bed when I was a little girl, which is something she is very excited to do with her grandchildren on overnight visits. My dad worked two jobs, including owning his own business. But when he was home, dinners were important as it allowed us to come together as a family.
My mom was always doing everything she could to help me learn and succeed in school, including checking my homework every night, being a parent leader for Battle of the Books, and enrolling me in extracurricular activities that made me excited to learn. Growing up in my parents’ household there was never a limit on books, as I was always encouraged to read more. We plan to have the same policy in our household.
What I Love About Meghan (by Brad)
Meghan is the most responsible and intelligent person I know. She is very organized, reads a lot and is detail-oriented. She gives everything her maximum effort and strives to be the best in both her professional and personal lives. Meghan takes the time to prepare for everything she is doing and raising a child is no exception. She cares deeply about her friends and family, and is always willing to go the extra mile to provide the best.
I have no doubt Meghan is going to be a fantastic mother. Meghan has a kind heart that adores her children. She is always excited to see our friends and their kids because it brings her so much joy. Meghan loves to play with or read to our friends’ children. She is always thinking about what’s best for the future of our family and any children instead of what’s best for her.
I was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs and I have a very close family. My parents made many sacrifices in order to provide the best for us. My dad worked very hard and long hours, but he always made time for us. My family prioritized education, encouraged our passions, and emphasized family activities. My parents love children and are very excited for their first grandchild.
During my childhood our family did everything together. We enjoyed vacations, weekends at the campground, and our yearly haunted house. We would spend days creating the haunted house together in our basement for trick-or-treaters every Halloween. I also have fond memories of decorating the Christmas tree every year, as Christmas was very important in our household. It is a tradition I am excited to carry on with our family.
What I Love About Brad (By Meghan)
Brad is the most amazing person I have ever met, and I think he will be a fantastic father. He is so patient and willing to help anyone and everyone.
When he returned to his parents’ home after college, there was a family with two young children that had moved across the street. He would spend hours not only doing the “fun” things with them like playing tag or catch, but he would spend hours teaching them how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. As our friends have children it is wonderful how excited he is to help them walk as they gain their balance, or to chase after thrown pacifiers.
I am so excited to have him as my partner as we begin this new phase of our lives as parents.
We are fortunate to live in a wonderful Chicago suburb, which has been rated as one of the best communities in the country to raise a family. We have easy access to all our town has to offer, along with being next to a large forest preserve, perfect for cycling and walks, and are close to the downtown area.
We have a wonderful three-bedroom home with more than enough space for children. Our living room has been transformed into a library with a large collection of books, as reading has always been very important to us. We build a climbing area in our basement so that we can practice even if we are not able to make it to the climbing gym. Our home backs up to a large field that often sees the neighborhood children using it for sports and play.
Reggie and Buckley
We have two very gentle giants as pets.
Reggie is an eight-year-old boxer who loves nothing more than to observe the world around her. She would watch out the window (or what we call the “doggy TV”) all day if she had her way. When our friends come over with their small children she loves to watch them play, and is fascinated by their babbling.
Buckley is a seven-year-old greyhound. He is a former racer from Florida who in retirement spends about 18 hours a day napping. We were so proud that he didn’t even flinch when a friends 20-month-old daughter plopped down on his back. Instead, Buckley, looked at her waiting for his pat on the head.
Our Hobbies and Adventures
We are a very active couple and enjoy activities such as rock climbing and cycling. Brad has been climbing since 2008 and introduced Meghan to the sport when they began dating. Meghan has been cycling since 2009 and completed her first 100-mile event after only six weeks on the bike. We love being outdoors when it’s hiking, on a bike, or simply walking through the neighborhood. We frequently take trips down to the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky for outdoor rock climbing and hiking with close friends.
When not outdoors, we love to play board games. We will also happily spend a lazy Sunday curled up with a good book.
Meghan is so excited to get a tricycle for a toddler, and Brad is equally excited to get our children their first pair of rock climbing shoes. We are also so excited for what new activities, indoor or outdoor, our children can introduce us to.
Our Family and Friends
We have an absolutely amazing support system made up of friends and family, all of whom are thrilled to see us adopt and grow our family.
Every Father’s Day we play mini-golf with Brad’s family, and this year his brother endlessly talked about how much fun mini-golf will be once we have children.
Many of our friends have infants and young children, they have already offered advice and to help us in so many ways. They have already begun planning group vacations that will be friendly for adults and children of any age. As a member of the Disney Vacation Club, we are looking forward to showing our children the joy of Disney, and to be able to experience that our friends and their children will make that even more magical.
Thank you for looking through our book and learning more about us. We admire your strength and courage during this decision making process, and we wish you comfort in your decision.
We will have total and unconditional love for your child, and we will do everything in our power to provide a loving and happy home.
