In September and October, ads (like the one above) ran on the green and red L lines, as well as on buses and bus shelters in southwest Chicago. We had a great response and were so glad for the opportunity to share about adoption as an option for women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy.

What else has our community outreach team been up to?

In September and October, we presented eight in-service trainings to social workers, nurses and case managers at local hospitals, providing beneficial adoption education and the opportunity for them to earn CEUs. We visited: Advocate Children’s Hospitals in Park Ridge and Oak Lawn, Delnor Hospital in Geneva, AMITA Health Adventist Medical Centers in Hinsdale and LaGrange and St. Bernard Hospital in Chicago.

We also held our first ever workshop in our office for hospital social workers on the topic of ethics in adoption. Along with other local social service agencies, we participated in the Community Resource Fair sponsored by the Valley View and Plainfield school districts, which was a great way for us to connect with school district staff and area residents, presenting adoption as an option for students experiencing an unplanned pregnancy.

In October, we had a table at the two-day Illinois Association of School Social Workers annual conference which was attended by hundreds of school social workers from around the state. We shared information about our free counseling services for students facing unplanned pregnancy, and our adoption-competent resources for adoptees.
